Science Program Officer

Contraria Sunt Complementa – Opposites Are Complementary
— N. Bohr

Nikolaus von Stillfried serves as the Science Program Officer at Paradox Science Institute. In collaboration with the whole scientific leadership team, he develops the institute’s various research streams, designs corresponding studies, and oversees their implementation.

Nikolaus has extensive experience in university-level research and teaching, as well as in program development and project management within private scientific enterprises. Among other roles, he served as Project Manager and Assistant to the Scientific Director at the Fetzer-Franklin Fund for over a decade.

His scientific expertise lies primarily in interdisciplinary consciousness and anomalies research as well as methodology and philosophy of science. After obtaining his MSc in neuroscience, his doctoral research explored theoretically and empirically the hypothesis that certain elements of quantum theory—such as nonlocality and complementarity—could be systems-theoretically generalized. Subsequently, he completed a habilitation in Philosophy, comprehensively analyzing various proposals on the relationship between quantum physics and consciousness and developing some of them further.

Nikolaus lives in Germany with his young daughter, who is for him an ever-present wellspring of inspiration, fueling his deep sense of awe about existence, life, and consciousness.
